Can We Be Human Again?

Aside from the $5 for a half tank of gas, does anyone else miss the 1990’s?

When we would just go to the record store and stare at all the new CDs, and tapes. Maybe lucky enough to be first to get the latest release by our favourite musician.

Or just showing up and a friends house to do fun shit in the neighbourhood – like street hockey.

Planning a phone call at home at the landline, that everyone shared in the house.

Getting news not in your hand, but on TV only between 5-7pm.

Waiting all week to watch the A-Team, and heaven forbid it ends with “To Be Continued.”

Saving your allowance so you can buy $5 worth of quarters to play videos games at 7-11 or at an arcade for the rest of the afternoon. The taste of the 7-11 hamburger is still etched in my head.

Being sick at home, and watching Bob Barker or Young and the Restless instead of that fuzzy channel and you might see a boob.

Is it bad to reminisce of a time that will no longer exist, or can we do this over again? To get that old life back when things just felt so fucking simple?

When new people came into the neighbourhood and someone stopped by to introduce themselves? Maybe with a pie, and was served tea or coffee to know each other.

We can plan a road trip to see a small town 2 hours away and stay for the weekend fishing, and that was the best time of our lives.

Why not ask, why can’t we do this again? This digital shit is dumb. The talking heads push too much fear about how the world sucks, yet that family across the street just found comfort because for the first time they could afford McDonalds. Or that other family who can finally sleep without a bomb dropping on their house.

Like.. ya feel me? We got separated by rich fucks and fail to see the human taking the same commute to work hoping to make it home safely, or the Dad who doesn’t feel he’s good enough for his wife and kids. Or that one lonely kid who needs a fucking hug to keep going.

Can we be human again?
